The Heart of the Home

The kitchen is often considered as the heart of the home as well as the place of preparation to a man's stomach.  A kitchen is a significant place in any house beyond cooking meals because it fosters family connection, creativity, and character.  Every kitchen is like a fingerprint to a family and the kitchen should be a reflection of that.  Early in life, kids can remember walking past the fridge to see their artwork adorning the simple fridge, seeing their handmade Christmas snowman greeting them each day leading up to Santa's arrival, and family reminders of events coming up.  As children grow, the memories of the kitchen grow as well.  It becomes a late-night snack hub with siblings, a place you're running through to hop in the car, and then a place you walk in after a long day.  Many think of the kitchen as a storage place for food, but there is so much more to this gathering place.

As teenagers grow to be adults, the kitchen becomes one of the greatest places for financial savings.  While it is fun to eat out every night with your friends, it becomes unsustainable financially.  People are realizing that you can be more financially flexible with meal planning and staying home to eat.  There are many benefits seeing as there can be lots of leftovers that can save you hundreds of dollars each month.  It can seem counterintuitive, but staying home to eat will improve your health and wellness in many ways.  It is beneficial to learn how to cook properly as well as discovering products that will boost your health.  Lowering the intake of processed foods will help your digestive system, so making it a habit to eat at home will give you an incentive to stay diligent in eating cleaner.  Cooking at home will also lower stress levels by increasing a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

As adults transition into parenthood, knowing their way around the kitchen will develop natural teaching opportunities to bond with their children.  Kids can learn practical life skills like reading recipes, measuring ingredients, and practicing kitchen skills.  Time spent in the kitchen with children will leave a major impact on their life.  I remember making pies with my great grandmother and how much that shaped me in the kitchen.  It is important for kids to be introduced to a kitchen.  For adults, the kitchen will allow them to explore new cuisine and master different culinary skills.

Time spent in the kitchen will cultivate memories, hobbies, and skills that people have lost value to.  As life is moving by at the speed of light, take some time to slow down and begin dabbling in the world of the kitchen.  If you are apprehensive to start a lifestyle revolved around the kitchen in food, begin small and gradually grow the skill.  It will take time, the best ingredients, and the best appliances.  Don't keep procrastinating and start creating in the kitchen!
